Nostalgia isn’t what it used to be!
Sorry for the lack of blogs recently, we have been absolutely bombed out with clients.
Recently, Mothers of the Bride’s and Mothers of the Groom’s have been worried about outshining the Bride because of the fabulous outfits we have in the shop. We have had tears, tantrums and traumas; anger, anguish and anxiety. Let me just say that this is absolutely normal, par for the course, to be expected. Moving house is a doddle compared to being Mother of the Bride or Groom. Mother’s go through the whole spectrum of emotions and can share their fears and feelings with other Mothers of the Bride or Groom that are suffering the same fate. (Same fate – it should be a joyous occasion – and it will be once the outfit is chosen!). Here, at Florentyna Dawn, we are all women who have been through the same experiences. I just thought I would put down these thoughts as choosing the ‘perfect’ outfit seems to be a major dilemma nowadays.
I can’t believe that Vera Lynn is 100 this week; Audrey Hepburn flared skirts are the order of the day; Jackie Onassis wide-necked jackets and dresses along with 1950s and 60s pretty fabrics are back in vogue. Mother of the Bride and Mother of the Groom can look as stunning as the Bride – but they must not worry about taking the limelight away from the Bride and Groom.
There may not have been Spitfire’s over the white cliffs of Dover, but there have been sparks of excitement in the shop. The ‘old’ styles are back with a vengeance and rightly so. They are elegant, flattering and generally gorgeous. Perhaps fashion designers are influenced by the films that are being released or the block busters that have been a tremendous hit. There are some amazing clothes in those films set in the 1930s to the 1960s. Pretty fabrics, of which we have hundreds, are to the fore for made to measure. Delicate mauves, stunning greens, oranges and yellows, muted navy, orange and greens – we have them all. Traditional flowers and prints are back and lace is as popular as ever.
So all you Mothers of the Bride’s and Groom’s, come and be treated to to a step back in fashion time.
